Balancing Thermal and Acoustic Performance in Johnsonville with Aluminium Windows & Doors
Project name
24 Haumia Street
Category
Multi-residential
Location
Johnsonville, Wellington
The client
Aymac Architecture & Paul McDonnell Homes
24 Haumia Street is a multi-residential development in Johnsonville, Wellington, designed by Aymac Architecture Ltd and constructed by Paul McDonnell Homes.
The project continues UNO’s relationship with Paul McDonnell Homes, following our work together on Beauchamp Street and Clark/Salisbury Street. That established track record provided a strong foundation for UNO to support another Wellington multi-residential development where performance requirements were a key consideration.
For 24 Haumia Street, the window and door package needed to balance thermal compliance with specific acoustic requirements to create comfortable internal living environments.
Scope
Meeting thermal and acoustic requirements
A key challenge was achieving the required acoustic performance while ensuring the window and door package also met the project’s H1 construction R-values.
UNO worked through the requirements for 109 aluminium window and door units, ensuring the selected UNO Thermal joinery and glass combinations could satisfy the required performance criteria.
With acoustic comfort particularly important to the project, the joinery package needed to help control external noise while maintaining natural light, ventilation and functionality throughout the homes.

Solution
UNO Thermal joinery for comfortable living
UNO supplied the UNO Thermal Suite with Clear Low E Glazing, providing a thermally improved aluminium joinery package designed to meet the project's performance requirements.
Specific laminated glass combinations were used with the Low E glass, in line with the acoustic engineer’s requirements. This allowed the window and door package to achieve the required acoustic performance while also meeting the project's H1 construction R-values, ensuring comfort for the occupants of the homes.
Finished in Matt Black powdercoat, a key UNO colour, the 109-unit package includes fixed and awning windows alongside hinged, stacking and sliding doors, creating a consistent solution across the development.
Adaptable Delivery Solutions
UNO provides adaptable shipping solutions to deliver our units anywhere in New Zealand for light commercial purchase orders. Our methods ensure timely and efficient installation nationwide.

Target Project Outcomes:
