UNO Windows & Doors was approached by Livingstone Building to be part of this significant project, contributing our expertise in aluminium joinery to support the rebuild of Kānihi Māwhitiwhiti Pā Marae.

This contemporary marae in Okaiawa, South Taranaki was designed by Boon and in partnership with Kanihi-Umutahi Hapū, local iwi, and whānau who led the concept. The Kānihi Māwhitiwhiti Pā rebuild effort ensured every element reflects versatility, connection, and the preservation of memory.

Joinery That Supports Function and Community

The redevelopment of the marae required joinery that could:

Enhance natural light and ventilation across multiple spaces
Support a variety of uses: from sleeping to dining, learning to gathering
Deliver a respectful, clean finish suited to a modern community setting

UNO delivered an efficient supply and installation package in collaboration with Livingstone Building that would maximise natural light and enhance occupant comfort.

How does UNO help you comply with H1 Requirements?

UNO Windows & Doors supplied and installed 40 aluminium window and door units, delivering an efficient and well-coordinated joinery package tailored to meet the aesthetic and functional requirements of the marae. A mix of UNO Non-Thermal and UNO Commercial suites was used to align with the needs of each space.

The joinery was finished in Matt Black, a timeless UNO key colour, complementing the new buildings' architectural expression. Clear Low E Plus Double Glazing was used to enhance daylighting while maintaining comfort, particularly in communal areas such as the wharenui and wharekai.

Flushglaze panels added to the modern design, while sliding and hinged doors provided smooth transitions and practical access between shared and private spaces. Each product supported the Marae’s future-facing design, while honouring the values embedded in its foundations.

Window & door units

UNO manufactured and delivered 40 aluminium windows and doors. A combination of Flushglaze, awning windows, hinge and sliding doors for a modern aesthetic & ease of entry & exit.

Matt Black Powdercoat

The Matt Black Powdercoat finish, a popular key colour in UNO’s aluminium joinery range, provides a modern and sleek aesthetic. This durable and low-maintenance finish aligns perfectly with the architect’s vision, offering long-lasting protection against New Zealand's diverse weather conditions.

Clear Low E Plus Double Glazing

Low E Performatech Double Glazing was used for every window and door unit in the thermal envelope providing advanced solar control, thermal performance insulation, natural light, and comfort for students, while acoustic laminated glass was used for all internal units to deliver optimal noise reduction.
