This Ministry of Education (MOE) project at Kuranui College in Greytown required a window and door solution that could balance H1 compliance with strict acoustic performance to produce healthy learning environments.

Designed by HDT and built by Apollo Projects, UNO Windows was approached to supply a window & door package that would support comfort and concentration, in line with the MOE requirements & H1 standards.

Balancing a Thermal and Acoustic Envelope

UNO Windows & Doors was contracted to deliver a supply and install package, comprising 18 windows and doors.

The challenge:

Meeting H1 thermal compliance for the external envelope
Simultaneously achieving the Ministry of Education's acoustic targets for internal spaces.

We worked closely with Apollo and HDT, and reviewed our solution with an acoustic engineer to deliver a package that would perform across both fronts, integrating seamlessly with MoE requirements.

How does UNO help you comply with H1 Requirements?

Creating comfortable, quiet, and well-lit learning environments is essential for student focus and teacher effectiveness. UNO’s solution for Kuranui College was designed not just to meet technical requirements but to actively provide an enhanced learning environment for students.

UNO specified Low E Performatech Double Glazing for external areas, and acoustic laminated glass for interior windows and doors between the gym & the learning environments. This allowed thermal efficiency at the same time as meeting the acoustic requirements inside the learning environment.
The Matt Black powdercoat finish, a UNO key colour, provided a bold, modern look to the new school block, while our UNO Non-Thermal suite was used to deliver an H1-compliant solution in line with the design brief.

UNO handled both supply and installation, coordinating closely with Apollo Projects to ensure every unit met project standards and timing.

Window & door units

UNO supplied and installed a total of 18 aluminium windows and doors, including French doors, hinge doors, and fixed windows, all manufactured to meet site requirements and performance targets.

An UNO key colour known for its elegant, neutral tone and exceptional durability. This finish helps reduce lead times and supports long-term maintenance performance in New Zealand’s varied climate.

Low E Performatech Double Glazing & Laminated Glass

Low E Performatech Double Glazing was used for every window and door unit in the thermal envelope providing advanced solar control, thermal performance insulation, natural light, and comfort for students, while acoustic laminated glass was used for all internal units to deliver optimal noise reduction.

UNO Non-Thermal Suite

Delivered a pathway to compliance by solving acoustic & H1 challenges in combination with Low E Performatech Double Glazing glass suited for the project.
