Bidfood
Bidfood is one of the largest specialist foodservice distributors in New Zealand, with multiple operations centres across the country. This decentralised structure allows them to ensure that regional demands are met and that local suppliers are supported.
Bidfood were planning to expand their operations in Hamilton with a new purpose-built facility to use as a distribution hub for their operations in the area. This new office and warehouse complex would increase their capacity to distribute their products (which include both frozen and chilled goods) within the North Island.
Scope
Commercial grade joinery was required for the new Bidfood operations centre.
UNO worked alongside building company Q Construction to supply aluminium joinery for the project.
The windows and doors needed to be commercial grade to ensure they were fit for purpose. It was also important that they were installed accurately and on time so that the new site could be utilised as soon as possible.
Requirements:
- Durable and suitable for a commercial setting.
- Adhere to the timeframe set out for contractors to complete the work.
Solution
Commercial shopfront units fitted
The scope of this project included manufacturing the commercial windows and doors as well as on-site installation. The windows were fitted in the office areas on the top and bottom storey of the building. Personnel access (PA) doors were also installed through the distribution and warehouse area.
A great choice for office buildings, the Stopsol glass used in this project ensures privacy and comfort for building occupants because of its reflective coating. Its low solar factor also limits the transfer of UV heat from the sun, reducing the air-conditioning costs in warm temperatures. The commercial suite was used to ensure the durability and practicality of the new complex.
The UNO team also provided shop drawings for this project which helped to ensure accuracy and avoid any sizing errors. As the details were worked out at the design stage of the project, there were no issues with the manufacturing and installation of the windows and doors.
The new distribution centre was completed for Bidfood in 2018. It was great to work alongside the Q Construction team for this project.
